Kicking it in Gothenburg

There are a dozen clubs on and around this legendary stretch of Gothenburg and reportedly more per square metre here than anywhere else in Sweden. So, no excuses for not hitting at least a couple of them. And there are also loads of good quality restaurants, pubs and bars.

All tastes are catered for here in the city that gave us Ace of Bass and Soundtrack of Our Lives. And the dance music on offer ranges from the former, to the latter, and everything in between. Styles? Also very varied. There is indie, punk, electronic, techno, dance and a very Swedish speciality called 'schlager' - a bit like upbeat Eurovision Song Contest entries - guaranteed fun in other words.

Like anywhere else, the club scene on the main boulevard Avenyn changes almost by the minute, but at the time of writing the bigger clubs such as Excet, Push, Peacock, Valand and Yaki-da are pulling the crowds. These places have several dance floors, multiple bars and a host of DJs.

Other hotspots along Avenyn or nearby include Park Lane, Deep, Glow, Trädgårn, Nivå and Nefertiti, although this one is mostly for jazz and blues aficionados during the week, but a favourite watering hole for the hipsters of Gothenburg at the weekend, we are reliably informed.

So, what are you waiting for? Come and enjoy the dance scene at Gothenburg's Avenyn and finish the evening off with a 'halv special', the local hot dog speciality.
